2023-24
Common Application & Supplemental Essays

“Am I doing this right?”

Your teen may be asking that question on loop, preventing motivation, creativity, and direction.

They likely feel the pressure of being asked to think and write about themselves in a way they never have.

As a published author and editor, I know how to tell a story. And as a high school English teacher, I know the often-paralyzing anxiety that surrounds the college process.

I help redirect your teen’s energy from anxiety to excitement, helping them stay focused and on-task.

I am committed to empowering your teen to hear and wield their own voice to write a standout Common Application essay, as well as concise, convincing, and engaging Supplemental essays.

I work collaboratively with students to refine their personality and voice on the page and deliver it with style and panache that will stand out from the thousands of essays in a highly selective application cycles.

Summer 2023 College Application Support

Understanding the trends and results of the 2023 admission cycle can help applicants better prepare themselves for the 2024 round. Starting early, focusing on extracurriculars and personal growth, and crafting compelling essays will significantly  improve a student's chances of success in the current competitive landscape of private college admissions.

Summer of Junior Year is for:

  • Making a preliminary college list

  • Preparing a standout resume and Activity Sheet

  • Reviewing your course list and senior year classes

  • Strategizing on who to ask for recommendations

  • Planning your Common App essay

I begin by reviewing all four years of a student's high school experience, including grades, course selection, extracurricular activities, and summer enrichment (jobs, internships, experiences, etc.) to help students identify the subjects and direction of their college essays.

From there, we begin to craft a clear educational narrative and a compelling roadmap for senior year, while drafting the Common Application essay and tackling Supplemental Essays in order of priority (ED, EA, EDII, etc.).

In the competitive 2024 admission cycle, colleges are looking for thought leaders, community organizers, and independent thinkers who are already walking the walk. They want students who are doing and being the best versions of themselves now, students who aren’t waiting for diplomas to make the change they want to see in the world.

I offer support through every step of the college process, from conceiving a viable, meaningful essay that highlights who your teen is - their particular gifts, personality, and ambitions. I will help them conceive, draft, and revise their essays, as well as stay on task throughout senior fall, taking note of all upcoming deadlines and completing materials to the highest standard.

Interview training

Interview Training (grades 11-12)

Since 2014, I have taught a year-long Public Speaking course to juniors designed to increase their familiarity and confidence as orators.

In bespoke one-on-one sessions, we will craft talking points specialized to each school and program while modeling best interview practices. Simulated interviews can be essential in making introverted students feel at ease, while helping ALL students crystalize their thoughts to best convey their enthusiasm for the institution.
